Motion and Light

by Stefan Belavy

hey Gang,

Happy Holidays. I found some links via Motionographer.
The hands one is certainly inspiring, and it’s probably possible
with the trapcode plugins - psst…DD should get a license for
them. Looking forward to the New Year…

Flickr Color Viewer

by Brett Forsyth

In the process of helping a student prepare for their final project I have been messing with flickr. So far I have tagged 11,000+ images with there RGB value. This will provide all sorts of neat applications. The flickr colr pickr is way better then my version at this point but not for long. Let me know what you think.

Brett developed the Flash player (which has now been patented), Ritchie worked on the site’s back-end architecture and functionality and I designed the player and website.

Corporate Identity Award Winners

by Sebastien de Castell

Hi Folks,

The Russian magazine “Identity” does a contest each year for the best indentity design.

Here’s the link for this year: http://www.artgraphics.ru/identity/best2006eng.html

What’s worth noting for Digital Design students are the full identity packages (in the second half of the article). When you’re thinking of doing a branding project, take a look at how important it is to have a good set of brand applications (i.e. not just a brand guide and business card or token flyer.) The brand guide sets out the rules but its the application of the brand that proves that it can work.

So here’s the question to consider: how much experimentation with application should happen during the identity development process? Should you wait until the identity is completely defined before trying it out?

Latest Experiments in 2D Deformations with Flash

by Brett Forsyth

I wanted to share my latest experiments in Flash. Background, I have been really interested in coming up with a elegant way of creating programmatic shape tweens for use in programmatic animations. I found this really great image distortion class that is part of the SANDY project that hold a lot of promise. Anyway here are my two experiments so far.
