I’m sure you are all familiar with the Pixar Short Film, Geri’s Game, featuring an older gentleman chess player playing a game against himself. If not, go watch it here. Now that we’re all on the same page, four Brazilian film students, Cesar Turin, Dalila Martins, Dani Libardi and Dhyana Mai, put together a shot-for-shot, live action remake of the film. There are a couple parts I wish were a little cleaner, but all in all, they did an amazing job and the actor they found is wonderful. Take a gander below:
This morning, I discovered a man, Scott Wade, who creates art on dirty car windows. Most folk, upon seeing a dirty window, try to be amusing by writing “wash me” or the like, but he goes all out in creating something amazing. All of which, of course, is washed away in the next rain. Definitely check it out.
If you love underground music (hip hop, house, broken beat) - these podcasts are awesome. You learn a lot about the creative process too - and I’m certain it applies to digital design.
Here’s a link to Bob Power…he produced some classic hip hop joints
You may have heard from the healthy grapevine that grows in and around VFS that I have decided to leave VFS to concentrate on my work at Rouxbe and DesignStamp.
Rouxbe is going to be developing new features over the next few months and I am going to be helping the company diversify and there are a lot of areas for work that I need to give all my attention. I will also continue to work on client projects through DesignStamp.
So with a heavyheart I will need to make this my last term teaching at VFS. I will miss teaching as it has been an important part of my life for the last 5 years. It’s a joy to see light bulbs go off and I will truly miss it.
The best thing about DD is that everyone who enters that building as a student or teacher…really cares! So I will miss being in your presence! I hope you all will keep in touch and I hope to work with you again. (and I will still come to grads hoping to find fresh talent so you ain’t done with me just yet!)
Here is another demo video of the multi-touch display Jeff Han and team have been working on. There are some really cool interface ideas shown in the video. What some of you may not know is a group at UBC has built a multi-touch display based on Jeff’s research and they are looking for people to build applications for it. I will keep you in suspense over what that may mean.
Here is an animation that I created in 3dsmax that was quite easy to make. It uses the reactor physics engine to simulate the gravity and collisions. The bowl was made my using the mental ray glass texture and I used light caustics for the focused light on the wood. Hope you like it.
Hey guys, I found this website the other day:http:Circus Museum , unlike other image bank websites, this one sells posters, photos and prints from the collection of Jaap Best, the Netherlands’ largest collection of circus memorabilia. it’s cool and it’s also a good reference for graphics, colour and typography.
