OK, I always wanted to have this car, so I decided to model it. Got some references from the-blueprints.com. Took about a whole day of work. It’s not perfect (the wheels would fall off in real life) but It’s my first model that isn’t a weird deformed object!
Mesh #2
For the paint I just followed this car paint tutorial.

Rendered in a forest!
If I find some time this term… I’m thinking about animating it on that scene (make it drift on the turn and driveby). Does anyone know what’s the best way to set the perspective so it matches the camera? Model the road and try to match it “by eye”?

I would highly recommend watching the video above. It discusses the newly announced “Milan” project from Microsoft that is selling for $5,000 to $10,000, but looks incredible. Not only does it have the multitouch options like we saw at Dorkbot and on TED, but the wireless integration totally blew my mind.
Also, look for the giant widescreen multitouch display created by Jeff Han for playing about in Google Earth. Simply amazing.

Sony unveiled what is billed as the world’s first flexible, full-color OLED display built on organic thin-film transistor (TFT) technology. The 2.5-inch prototype display supports 16.8 million colors at a 120 x 160 pixel resolution, is 0.3 mm thick and weighs 1.5 grams.
This is the future of screens…

Dave, Tetsuya, Ryan and I picked up a web cam (Creative Live! Cam Video IM Pro) for the multi-touch display yesterday. After searching for an hour to find the camera that could answer the question of “How are we going to take this apart without smashing it?” we found the live cam. For the multi-touch system to work we needed to make a camera sensitive to Infrared light. This required that we disassemble the camera to remove the IR filter. In its place we put two small squares of blackened film end, which blocks out the visible light. The image of this post shows the results.
Other developments include the testing of a projector and testing touchlib very briefly. We realized quickly that we weren’t ready for touchlib as it requires the screen to calibrate it. Our acrylic, 2×4″ square and 1x 20″x27″, has arrived which will allow us to test different projection surfaces. It seems that putting a layer of clear silicone on top of the acrylic makes the blobs much brighter but it looks like a bit of pain to do. For testing purposes I ordered the 4″ squares of the same acrylic. One of the reasons for this is we we want to test the difference between surface mounted LEDs and embedded LEDs. By embedded I mean placed into holes drilled in the edge of the acrylic sheet. I personally think that the embedded LEDs make the whole things simpler and cleaner now its just a questions of light transmission. Pictures to follow.

For those that did or didn’t see the post I made earlier.. here is more detailed info about a sweet animating opportunity.
BACKGROUND
It is the not-too-distant future, and the cultures of Earth have all merged into a planetary culture that has seen the fusion of the Eastern spiritual approach with the Western mastery of material manifestation. Despite the fabric of collective consciousness that decades of cyber technology have woven, people still suffer as they always have, in the chambers of samsara, falling prey to the attachments of human nature’s eternal unfolding. Against this prescient future we meet Aya, a precocious young girl and her terrestrial guru Shenguan, who take us on a trip around the world, where they visit the most spiritually charged places on Earth, and meet the wisdom-keepers of the indigenous traditions, who share their insights with Aya to help her become illuminated.

Tons of people wanted to get the T-shirt by just seeing students wearing it. But we actually have quite a few people come into the RIS booth and asked if they can buy it. You guys did anĀ awesome job!
