UPDATE Jan. 9, 2008: Apparently W+K closed the site to submit an application but if you did before they closed it you can still send a pdf. But even if you missed it this time, it says on the site that they might do this again in November.
I just got back online after a couple days hiatus due to traveling and after reading Ivan’s
post I was reminded of this. Before I left for my trip I had seen ads in the
Mercury and
Willamette Week placed by Wieden and Kennedy but wasn’t sure what it was. I filled out their (fun?) flash based application at
wk.com/seeking. They were pretty vague in both the ad and on the site but here is an excerpt from the email I just received giving a little more of an explanation:
“W+K is an independent advertising agency that creates a lot more than advertising. Our clients include Nike, Coke, Starbucks, Target, EA, Old Spice and Heineken.
Dan Wieden and David Kennedy created W+K as a place for people to express their voice and create the best work of their lives. This place depends on those people.
We created wk.com/seeking to meet more talented and interesting people. Specifically, people who could work in our creative department - people who can tell a story well in all sorts of media, people who solve problems with ideas. We seek designers, writers and art directors, but expect to find a few artists, product designers, editors, people who create all kinds of things and who don’t fit into a neat basket. People with experience, people who’ve never created an ad in their life. You maybe.
We are on track to receive 6000 profiles by January 1. We will fly 50 of those people to Portland in late March for an adventure. We’ll put you up for a couple of days, you can check out Portland, we’ll meet each other, no strings attached. It ought to be pretty incredible.”
It sounds pretty exciting and I think that I will try to get something together to submit once I get back to Vancouver. I believe the official deadline to submit a pdf is January 15, 2008 but go to the site for all the details. This could be an amazing oportunity.
I am just hoping this isn’t some sort of American (or Canadian) Idol sort of thing but I am willing to throw my hat in the ring. Who knows, I might be the next Clay Aiken of graphic design? Or atleast the Justin Guarini.

Tea Forte
I really love this company’s stuff… from the simplest unit (the tea bag) right up to their gift boxes and accessories, all their packaging is simple, beautiful and fun, without being too girly. The photos are nice too- and the colour pallet.

I’m just about to graduate and wanted to say thanks to all the great teachers and students. I learned a lot, this was one crazy year for me at VFS. If you are into motion here’s a tip: collaborate! The best results come if you have different skill sets. For me it was working with Antonio (artistic guy!). With my technical and software knowledge and his creative direction we really made work that makes us both proud. Alone its really hard to handle the work amount that motion design requires.
Well, enjoy 1 year of work at VFS in a 1 minute demoreel.

As most students are aware we have been working on a system to syndicate all submitted student blogs on the DDBlog. We have been testing it for a couple weeks now and it seems ready for its public release. I consider this a beta so if you find any issues with it let me know. You can get to the syndicated blogs by click on the Syndicated link in the sidebar.
