This might be a little late for term 3 students as I am sure your infographics are well on the way and just need some polishing by now (yeah right..!) but I suggest to anybody interested in infographics in general to pickup the newest Idn magazine.
Their new issue focusing on infographics is full of inspiring pieces of work from web, print & motion .The magazine features (info)-graphic designer Nicholas Felton, motion design studio PIC Agency for their amazing Kingdom titles, Superfad for their sprint commercial and many others. For people interested in web design involving infographics, they have a short interview with Jonathan Harris who is mostly into web information visualization, check out his web projects, especially “we feel fine” and his talk on TED.
Still into this term-3-love state of mind, the magazine also includes short articles/interview with title sequences giants Prologue and Richard Morrison.
I think its worth the 15 bucks but if your broke, it might be a good idea to ask faculty to get their hands on at least 1 copy for the school as I am sure this could help some people for the motion design 3 class to get fresh inspiration. Enough of that bridesmaids crap…
”I’m not thinking the way I used to think. I can feel it most strongly when I’m reading. Immersing myself in a book or a lengthy article used to be easy. My mind would get caught up in the narrative or the turns of the argument, and I’d spend hours strolling through long stretches of prose. That’s rarely the case anymore. Now my concentration often starts to drift after two or three pages.”
Here is as lively talk about the future of interaction design from cyberpunk author/legend Bruce Sterling. It was the closing lecture at the ‘Innovationsforum Interaktionsdesign’ conference in Potsdam, Germany. He painted a weird and wonderful vision of the future filled with biometrics and wireless money transfers. Probably one of the best futurist rants I’ve heard in a long time. He shoots down talking computers (think Mr. Clippy) and runs through a piece of the large list of technologies that were assimilated by the cell phone. Check it out, you’ll feel like a better person at the end. I swear.
p.s. - The ‘Innovationsforum Interaktionsdesign’ was one of the most important conferences on interaction design in 2007. All presentations from the conference are available as videos on the conference site (note that many of the lectures are in German).
Just dropped by to ask you guys a little favor; our final project “DUELITY” is one of the finalists at FITC 2008 in the Motion Graphics category. As a finalist we are automatically an entry for the people’s choice awards, so Ryan and i would really appreciate if you guys could vote for us! It’s really simple and it only takes a minute; just go to http://awards.fitc.ca/pc , select DUELITY on the Motion Graphics list, put your name and e-mail address on the bottom and click on submit vote! Simple as that!
Thanks a lot guys!
Keep up the good work!
Cheers
I think you should know why you all saw Danny almost every night at school for the past couple weeks, well, Danny was working non-stop on three videos for the GRAPHEX 2008 Gala.
The videos have been really well received by professionals and students alike, check them out here:
Paperium is a unique digital pen. The thing that makes this a bit different then most digital pens is that it can save your artwork as vectors. This will probably seem like a to good to be true device to those that cherish the pen and hate the tablet. A bit pricey at 229.00 EUR, especially since you need their special paper as well, but it’s still less then a big tablet.
AKQA is hosting an event at Cannes…it’s a great way to get noticed in the Advertising/Interactive community. Big prizes,
big recognition. And, it’s free. A great way to network and jumpstart your career.
CanUX (a Microsoft Developer Network blog) is a blog that focuses on the user experience community in Canada. Recently they took a look at me and some of my work, specifically my final project, the Organic Web.
The article can be found here. In the article I talk briefly about my passions as a designer and where I am headed in the future. Also in the article is a video that demonstrates some of the core concepts behind the Organic Information Visualization System I developed, (the system that the Organic Web demo application is built on).
A special thanks to CanUX for giving me the opportunity to share my work!
Thanks for attending assembly today –I enjoyed speaking with some of you after my talk!
I just wanted to put a shout out about the Beta User pool at Rouxbe. If you think you could be good at trying out the site experience and providing objective feedback, then hit me back and let’s chat about setting you up with access. gdiesh (a) rouxbe.com.
Never before have Bridesmaids been so important to VFS, until a motion graphics piece from it’s students make it into Motionographer in record time. What has it been, a couple weeks?
