Back in Black t-shirt exhibit

Originally posted by Nicolas Alexander on November 14th, 2008

Back in Black is a t-shirt exhibit put together by Hydro 74 and Pale Horse Design to promote….oh well they explain it better than I would:

“The purpose of this show is to highlight the artwork of the uncelebrated designers whose art you’ve probably been collecting in your closet for years, as well as to establish the t-shirt as a new medium for fine art.”

check out the shirts and the artists here:

and by the way, the event is sponsored by “design by humans” which you should really check out and if you are a designer, should sign up, post t-shirt designs and get the chance to earn some greens.

No Flashy effects here. Lines are the real deal.

I thought i’d check in today because I am going to be pretty busy in the next couple of days plus I haven’t posted any work in a while. So…It appears that I am spending most of my time these days doing typographic artwork, corporate logos and broadcast show Identity rather than motion graphics… which should lead to a major Behance profile update soon..I promise.

I’m also working on a series of Type artwork for the folks over at Defeat the Monkey and this one is a work in progress I hope to finish before the weekend. I rarely do all vector artwork but since this is going to be printed on t-shirt I thought it would be better to keep it all lines and flat colors. They provided me a list of words I need to illustrate and hopefully it will make a really cool Typographic collection.

For this one I was looking for a fat but tall typeface to keep the composition as narrow as possible since I had lots of letters . IMPACT was too short and HAETTENSCHWEILER was a little too squar-y in some places so I started playing around with FIGHT THIS, the “fight club” typeface and after a lot of tweaking…to the point that it doesnt look like the FIGHT THIS at all anymore , I was finally happy with the proportions. It’s almost done but I want to give the letters a slight stone/eroded feel. I didn’t do any coloring yet but quite frankly I think I like this almost “comic book” black & white look. I dont want to ruin the tension and movement happening. what do you think?

So lots of work coming up, this should allow me to do updates here and there: A portfolio/behance update with all those defeat the monkey artworks. 2 identity exploration and final logos for new shows on Much & MuchMoreMusic. Title sequence for short film Ste-Marguerite. Inside regard 2009 is also coming up, this should be fun.

The world of the sketchbook.

MOD Identity Package

Originally posted by Jaime Arvizu Bonnells on November 12th, 2008

For my final project at VFS I decided to take an external brief which was provided by CTV Toronto, the objective of the project was to redesign the identity package for one of Muchmusic’s show called Much On Demand (MOD). Even though the original brief only required:

(1)Intro

(1)Bumper

(1)Fullscreen transition

(1)Lowerthird

I decided to broaden the scope a bit by adding one extra bumper and 2 samples of numbers for the countdown. MOD is a show where people vote for what they want to see, from this idea I developed my concept which is that lots of people, getting together, with similar tastes = something bigger, or in this case, lots of “cells” getting together = MOD.

Here are a few videos that showcase most of the work I did during the last months, If you are interested in seeing more of my process and conceptual work click here to view the case study.

MOD compiled, this video shows all the elements I created for the Identity Package.

[See post to watch QuickTime movie]

MOD samples, this video shows how the elements of the identity package would interact with music videos in the actual show.

NOTE: All the music videos where taken from the VFS music video library, special thanks to Leo Aguiar, Moragn Hirtle and Jamie Peterson, I hope you guys won’t mind me using your videos.

MOD breakdown, this shows a little bit of how the project was made, yeah… I’m revealing my secrets, hope you guys find it interesting.

And finally… this links are in case you liked the stuff I did a lot and want to download it in a higher resolution to your computer (you should do this so you can see all the details in the videos) hope you guys like it.
